The community is invited to this outdoor ceremony for Holly Springs Elementary, a school for Black children that stood on the site of Hunt Recreation Center for nearly a half century, beginning in the 1920's. The original plank structure was a Rosenwald School, one of thousands envisioned by Booker T. Washington that Chicago philanthropist Julius Rosenwald provided building plans and construction grants for to aid African-American education in the South. The historical marker is a collaboration of the Town of Holly Springs and members of the community. Those attending should wear masks and observer social distancing. While we've been apart this year, the Cultural Center teamed up with local musicians to keep the music alive...online! This week, we feature a smooth saxophone quartet called "The Overtones."
