The Holly Springs Town Council and Planning Board held a joint meeting Tuesday to receive an overview of traffic impact analyses, studies that evaluate the effect of proposed developments on transportation.
The town currently requires transportation analyses for proposed developments to determine how proposed developments will impact the nearby road network. The town is considering updating the policy regarding traffic impact analyses to ensure the analyses accurately project future road network impacts and roadway improvements that are needed from developers.
A traffic impact analysis is an essential step in the development review process as it assists developers and the town in making land-use decisions that may impact traffic and transportation in the area, staff said. The studies identify what road improvements are needed due to proposed developments.
The studies satisfy regulatory requirements and identify:
- traffic impacts on the nearby road network
- traffic impacts on-site (school queuing, etc.)
- number / location of access points to a development
- required offsite congestion and safety improvements
- when improvements are necessary.
