[ARCHIVED] School Construction Prompts Segment of New Hill Road to Close

New Hill Rd. Detour Map

New Hill Road from Old Holly Springs-Apex Road to Green Oaks Parkway will close for up to 100 days for widening where an elementary school and subdivision are being built.

The closure will begin March 15 or the following week and continue around-the-clock. Traffic will be detoured along Green Oaks Parkway.

A public drop-in meeting to explain the temporary closing will be held Monday, March 7 from 5-7 p.m. downstairs in Town Hall at 128 S. Main St. Representatives from Wake County Public Schools and the subdivision developer will be there.

Oakview Elementary School is scheduled to open this fall on the traditional calendar. It has been planned for 800 students. The difficulty of the road widening and the hurry to finish the school on time are reasons for closing that portion of New Hill Road.

A temporary, gravel road will provide access to emergency vehicles and to the couple of homes along the closed portion.
