[ARCHIVED] Peak Leaf Collection Season Underway

The annual leaf collection season for the Town of Holly Springs officially is underway. During this season, the Town’s four vacuum trucks rotate continuously through Holly Springs collecting leaves. Trucks collect as many leaves as quickly as possible every weekday, traveling neighborhood by neighborhood. To allow residents to plan ahead for leaf collection where they live, online updates will be posted every weekday at www.hollyspringsnc.us/leaf through the season.

Daily updates posted by 5:30 p.m. every weekday will list the order of neighborhoods where leaves are collected and show where leaves were collected earlier that day. Every Friday, the update will list the neighborhoods staff hopes to visit the following week.

While staff will strive to collect leaves as quickly as possible, leaf collection can be delayed by the volume of leaves left for crews to collect, inclement weather, and equipment breakages. That’s why it’s important not to mix sticks, rocks or other debris with the leaves. Materials other than leaves can damage the vacuum trucks, taking them out of service for repairs and slowing down collection.

Please rake leaves to the edge of your front yard, off the street pavement, for collection. Do not bag leaves. Keep leaf piles separate from other yard debris.

Holly Springs crews begin work at 8 a.m. every weekday morning with the exception of holidays. These include:

Veterans Day, Nov. 11
Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 26-27Christmas holiday, Dec. 24-25
New Year’s Day, Jan. 1Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 18

The leaf collection season ends Jan. 31. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (919) 552-5920.
