[ARCHIVED] Bass Lake Bridge Replacement on Schedule

Completion of the new Bass Lake Road bridge remains on schedule for completion in late October or early November.

The old bridge has been removed. Foundations for the two bridge supports have been completed, and support columns for them are halfway finished.

The N.C. Department of Transportation closed the old bridge in May, temporarily cutting off a back-road connection between Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina.

NCDOT said the bridge, which was built in 1954, was structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. Replacement has been planned since at least 2008.

Through traffic is detoured along Holly Springs Road and Sunset Lake Road. N.C. 55 can be an alternate detour for some motorists.

Bass Lake Road remains open to local traffic on either side of the bridge. Drivers can still turn into Bass Lake Park and onto streets such as Salem Ridge Road from the Holly Springs side.
