Holly Springs police are reminding residents to be diligent about security in light of home break-ins during the past week in three neighborhoods.
The areas that have been affected include Crossway Lane in the Sunset Ridge North subdivision, Cayman Avenue in Windward Pointe, and Hidden Stream Drive in the Woodcreek subdivision.
Officers will increase patrols in those neighborhoods and others to gather information and increase deterrence. If you see patrol officers in your neighborhood, do not be alarmed.
Summertime brings new opportunities for thieves as families leave town on vacation for days or weeks at a time. Even so, basic precautions for personal and home security apply year-round.
Most home break-ins occur during weekdays when residents are at work and children are in school. Please ensure that your doors are locked and garage is shut when you leave the house. For maximum security, it’s a good idea to keep your doors locked even when you're at home.
If you have an alarm system, activate it when you leave. An alarm may not prevent a thief from breaking into your home, but it will limit the time that he can stay before being caught.
If you are leaving for a summer vacation, ask a neighbor, friend or someone else that you trust to keep an eye on your home while you are gone.
It's also a good idea to have someone pick up your mail and newspapers. Nothing says, “No one’s home!” louder that a stack of newspapers at the end of your driveway.
Please report any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles to the Holly Springs Police Department immediately.
Call the non-emergency number line at (919) 552-7110 with information regarding these crimes or others, or if you see anything suspicious. As always, dial 911 in an emergency.
