[ARCHIVED] Holly Springs Fifth Safest Town in N.C.

Holly Springs ranks as the fifth safest town in N.C. in a comparison of FBI Crime Report data compiled by the home security company SafeWise.

Holly Springs was the top ranking town in the Triangle, using the most recent year (2013) for which statistics are available. Apex and Cary were seventh and eighth.

It was the second year in a row that Holly Springs ranked as the safest town in the region.

SafeWise compiled its 50 Safest Cities in North Carolina list from towns of at least 4,000 population that reported crime data to the FBI.

The numbers were totals for:

• Violent Crime – Murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault
• Property Crime – Larceny, burglary, arson and motor vehicle theft

Holly Springs turns up frequently on "best places" lists using criteria such as safety, relative affordability, and home ownership. Some of Holly Springs' neighbors also fare well on such lists, demonstrating the area's attractiveness to newcomers.

This month, Holly Springs was rated the best suburb in N.C. in which to buy a house and the seventh best place in the state in which to land a job.

On the flip side, Holly Springs topped a longest commute time list that also was dominated by suburbs of Charlotte and Raleigh. The rankings did not factor driving distance.

Although Holly Springs benefits from proximity to Research Triangle Park, co-workers in towns to the north including Apex and Cary are even closer.
