The Holly Springs Farmers Market offers the freshest fruits and veggies in Town, according to voters in local magazine Suburban Living’s Best of Holly Springs contest. And with the Holly Springs Farmers Market’s ninth season just around the corner (opening day is May 2), residents will soon be crunching into healthy, locally grown produce sold every Saturday at the market downtown.
Winners of the Suburban Living contest were announced in the magazine’s most recent edition. Click here for a list of all the winners.
“Our market vendors bring quality locally grown farm-fresh food to the downtown Village District, attracting a very loyal weekly customer base,” said Gina Clapp, director of the Town’s Department of Planning & Zoning, which manages the market. “We see an average of more than 600 shoppers each week and more than 2,000 on days we have special events. Our vendors say we have the most customers who actually come to shop than any other market they are involved with.”
With weekly music, classes and programs, it’s not just the produce that’s gaining recognition. The Holly Springs Farmers Market itself has consistently ranked in the American Farmland Trust contest for your Favorite Farmers Market. Just last year, the market was named North Carolina’s Top Celebrated Farmers Market and in the top 10 nationally. The Holly Springs Farmers Market also was also voted one of the best North Carolina farmers markets in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
In addition to fresh fruits and veggies, the market offers all-natural meats like chicken, pork and beef as well as artisanal baked goods, cheeses, sauces and more. Annual community events include the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce Taste of Holly Springs in June and the Chili Cook-off in October.
The Holly Springs Farmers Market expanded to include an indoor Winter Market on select Saturdays beginning last November. The last Saturday of this first Winter Market season is March 28, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
