[ARCHIVED] Public Works Crews Prepare for Icy Roads

Public Works crews have trucks ready with sand and salt in case roads turn icy Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Trucks with a plow attached to the front and a salt and sand spreader on the back are on hand along with a motor grader, said Public Works Director Luncie McNeil. Crews have begun filling the trucks with a 3-to1 mixture of sand plus salt.

"We're prepared as best we can be," McNeil said, adding that equipment checks and the gathering of supplies began months ago.

Waste Industries' collection of garbage and recyclables will be delayed by 2 hours Wednesday morning.

A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain and possibly was forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

All youth basketball practices and games were cancelled for Tuesday evening because of the threat of inclement weather.
