[ARCHIVED] Food Truck Rodeo at the Holly Springs Farmers Market Saturday

If you're looking to treat your taste buds, the place to be this Saturday is downtown at the Holly Springs farmers market. The first annual Park-It in the Market Food Truck Rodeo is corralling everything from Asian fusion tacos to Belgian waffles, North Carolina barbecue to Pakistani favorites into one location August 2, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Eight food trucks are joining the market's weekly ready-to-eat farm stand treats including artisan breads, baklava, gluten-free muffins, homemade premium ice cream, roasted nuts, popcorn and more. In addition, market vendors will be selling produce and all-natural meats to last you until the following week's market opens.

"The food truck rodeo is bringing in a good variety of foods and foods not typically available at the Holly Springs farmers market," said Gina Clapp, director of the Planning & Zoning Department, which operates the farmers market.

Live music by Free States, a bluegrass quartet, begins at 10 a.m., and activities for children will be held at the Little Sprouts Activity Center throughout the morning.

Food trucks include:

All American Food Truck: High-quality American cuisine.

Belgian Waffology: Authentic Belgian waffles and homemade cocoa.

Big Mike's BBQ: North Carolina barbecue and sauces.

Citizen Pops: Handmade fresh fruit popsicles.

CJ's Street Food: Korean BBQ and Asian fusion tacos, burritos and rice bowls.

Halal Bros.: Integration of New York city street food with authentic Pakistani favorites.

Kona Ice: Shaved ice with a variety of flavors.

Valentino's: Boasts the best meatballs on four wheels and other Italian classics.

Whether you're coming for the food trucks or coming for the ready-to-eat farm stand treats, come hungry! Not all food trucks and market vendors accept plastic, so consider bringing cash. Food trucks will be parked on East Center Street, which will be closed to traffic. Tables and chairs will be placed beneath tents within the market for a shady eating spot.

"This is an event you won't want to miss," Clapp said. "We've received a lot of requests from both market vendors and patrons for a food truck rodeo, and we're expecting it to be a success."

The farmers market opens at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot across from Town Hall on Main Street. Parking is available in the lots adjacent to Town Hall and the Methodist church off Avent Ferry Road. Attendance at the farmers market is averaging more than 700 people per week. Market staff anticipate this weekend's event to draw more than 2,000 people as the Taste of Holly Springs did earlier this season.

The Holly Springs farmers market relies on sponsors to cover operation costs. The market's 2014 blue ribbon sponsor is GMA Supply. The food truck rodeo is sponsored by Gillooly & Associates Realty. Children's activities are sponsored by Little Pros Academy. This season's live music is sponsored by the Villages at Pecan Grove and Allstate Insurance - Sandhar Agency.
