[ARCHIVED] Council recognizes Kids Appreciation Day

The Holly Springs Town Council, at its April 15 meeting, recognized the upcoming Kids Appreciation Day, issuing a proclamation praising and supporting the annual celebration. The Kiwanis Club of Holly Springs event, to be held May 3 from 2-4:30 p.m. at Sugg Farm Park, highlights students and a teacher chosen by their schools.

Also at the meeting, the council approved locating a 199-foot monopole communication tower adjacent to the North Main Athletic Complex. The council approved a special exception use petition allowing a car wash at 1100 N. Main St. to reopen.

A resident addressed the council, voicing concerns that the new disc golf course at Jones Park was being constructed too close to his property and was not keeping with the plans presented at a previous council meeting. The council suggested the resident meet with the director of the Parks and Recreation Department to resolve the issue.

As part of the consent agenda, the council approved a $7,049 budget amendment to cover final expenses for the Womble Park project. The council also approved an increase in rent of $100 per month for Fire Station 3. The council reclassified a vacant police officer position, grade 77, to a police lieutenant, grade 83. The council also entered into an agreement for the Town’s fiber internet connection to the North Carolina Research and Education Network.

The council approved closing Town Hall and non-critical Town offices from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 2 for a memorial event in memory of Carl Dean, former Town manager. The council also authorized eminent domain proceedings for the Main Street Extension road project.
