Are you brave enough to shave?
Holly Springs firefighters are. They invite you to join them Sunday, March 16, beginning at noon at My Way Tavern in downtown Holly Springs. Participate, donate or cheer firefighters on as they shave heads in a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
This is the second year the Fire Department has participated in the event. Like last year, the department is selling green T-shirts as an additional method of raising money. On the back of the shirts, a cartoon firefighter stands by the slogans, “Shave the Brave” and “Extinguish Kids Cancers.” The $15 shirts can be purchased at Fire Station 1 off Flint Point Lane weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or at the March 16 event at My Way Tavern. Sparky the Fire Dog will be in attendance at the event.
“The biggest reason we’re doing it is to bring awareness to the research into kids’ cancer and to try to fund research,” said James Jackson, Fire Department engineer. “We’re trying to reach out to the public.”
Anyone can donate to the Fire Department team online at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/10107/2014. The Shave the Brave team is open to the public. So if you’re brave enough to shave, you’re more than welcome to join firefighters on the team.
The Fire Department had reached nearly a quarter of its $2,500 goal within the first few days of March. All money raised, including proceeds from T-shirt sales, goes to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity that funds research to find cures to childhood cancers.
