[ARCHIVED] Protect Yourself from Vehicle Break-ins

Don’t become a victim of a crime of opportunity. The Holly Springs Police Department reports a growing trend in vehicle break-ins in recent weeks. They are urging citizens to take the proper precautions to avoid becoming a victim. Prevention is the best form of protection.

The Holly Springs Police Department recommends citizens take the following action:
• Lock your car doors
• Keep your vehicle clean and free of items that may draw attention to what could be inside the vehicle
• Conceal valuables
• Park in sight of windows and doors; you are less likely to fall victim if you can keep an eye on your vehicle
• Close all windows and sun roofs

Police report that 99% of vehicle break-ins reported in Holly Springs were due to citizens leaving their vehicles unlocked.

If you do become the victim of a vehicle break-in, it is important to contact the police as soon as you realize your vehicle has been tampered with. Do not touch anything until the police have had the opportunity to examine your vehicle for evidence. Allow plenty of time for the police to conduct their investigation. They will furnish you with a case number before they leave.
