Council Approves Budget, Holly Springs Road Widening Moves Forward

Holly Springs

At its June 16 meeting, the Holly Springs Town Council approved the town budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The transportation bond project to widen Holly Springs Road from Flint Point Lane to Sunset Lake Road moved forward; the council approved a budget amendment for temporary easement and right-of-way acquisition. The project will increase the road capacity from a two-lane road to a four-lane road, improve safety, and upgrade the bridge over Middle Creek to decrease the chance of roadway flooding during heavy rain events.

The project is on schedule for an anticipated construction start date of mid-2021.

The council also approved a community business rezoning for the Village Gate development near the Ralph Stephens Road and South Main Street intersection. The development is planned to include commercial and residential uses, with some designated as workforce housing units, a senior living facility, a medical office building and a childcare campus.

Development plans did not move forward for townhomes and office buildings off Avent Ferry Road near its intersection with Cass Holt Road. Concerns voiced by numerous nearby residents at the meeting included traffic and a negative impact on property values.

Also at the meeting:

  • The NC Forest Service presented the town and Tree Advisory Committee the Tree City USA Award for sound urban forestry management. The committee also presented its annual report to the council.
  • July was proclaimed Parks and Recreation month in Holly Springs. This year’s theme is #WeAreParksandRec and will recognize staff, participants and supporters who make our parks & recreation department a special asset to the community.
