Waste Industries Merger Prompts Re-Branding with New Colors

Colorful new containers for trash and recycling will appear at a gradually increasing number of homes in Holly Springs for new customers and for those needing replacement. Only new residents and those with broken containers are receiving the new bins.

  • Black containers with green lids – Trash goes in those.Trash and recycling carts
  • Green containers with black lids -  Recyclables go there.

Collection services, routes and pickup days remain the same. Customers will continue using the carts they have now until needing a new one or until collection crews decide to switch them out.

The brightly-colored containers are easily visible at night. The color change is part of a re-branding prompted by Waste Industries’ merger with GFL (Green for Life) Environmental last fall. The town is in conversation with GFL Environmental, the town's private refuse and recycling collection company, about the color of the new roll-out containers.

A shipment of new containers stamped with what belongs inside them should arrive soon. Those labeled containers will replace any new, unlabeled containers that have been distributed. The pace of replacement is not yet clear.

In the coming months, GFL also will begin painting trucks bright green. The company replace patches on uniforms as well. As a result of this merger, there is no additional cost to residents.

As always, call Holly Springs Public Works at (919) 552-5920 if your trash or recycling container needs replacement or if you have some other issue with collection. Please give your address and details of what needs attention.
