Council Receives Report on Southern Area Study

At its Feb. 20 meeting, the Holly Springs Town Council received a report on findings from a recent study of the town's southern planning area, approved a contract for design and construction of a gateway sign, and more.

The Southern Area Planning Initiative report, received by the council at the meeting, detailed a study that included public assessment of the southern area of the town and its planning jurisdiction. Click here for more information about the initiative and a link to the report.

Also at the meeting, the council approved retaining Rodney's Sign Company to provide design and construction administration services for a gateway sign, which will create a focal point at the intersection of Holly Springs Road and Sunset Lake Road. The council is to approve the design before construction.

Upon the completion of the 540 interchange on Holly Springs Road, this northeast gateway will become one of the most visible and highly traveled entrances into town, a staff document said. The town plans for this and other gateway areas to feature decorative signs and landscaping to welcome residents and visitors.

Also at the meeting, the council:

  • Set a special meeting date of March 13 at 4 p.m. for a transportation workshop in the Holleman Room at Town Hall. Discussion is to include a transportation bond referendum.
  • Directed staff to issue a request for proposals for an executive search firm to assist the council in hiring a town manager. Town Manager Chuck Simmons recently announced his retirement, effective in April.
  • Tabled a public hearing regarding a request for a waiver in reduction in right of way and a special exception use petition to allow for a single-family dwelling in the Village District at the Holly Springs Road and Blalock Street intersection.
