Town Manager Chuck Simmons Announces Retirement

Town Manager Chuck Simmons

Chuck Simmons has announced that he will retire in late April after more than four years as Holly Springs town manager and more than 30 years in local government.

He joined the town of Holly Springs in September 2001 as assistant manager after more than a decade as town manager of Erwin.

Simmons told the Town Council of his retirement plans Feb. 10 at the end of the council’s annual planning retreat in Southern Pines.

“This decision, while I have pondered it for several months, has not been an easy one,” he said in a message to town staff. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented, dedicated and professional group like yourselves.”

Simmons will leave April 27 after wrapping up work on a proposed budget for the fiscal year starting in July.

“I have much to do in the coming weeks and months, most notably the budget” he told town staff.

He reached his decision after careful consideration and with mixed emotions, Simmons said, expressing gratefulness for the support he has received over his years in Holly Springs.

“It’s really been the highlight of my career, essentially building a town,” he said. “I feel like we’re a part of something special.”
