Peter Villadsen was sworn in as a member of the Town Council on Jan. 17.
He had been chosen by the council to replace Linda Hunt Williams, who resigned in December after being elected to the N.C. House of Representatives.
Villadsen will serve the remainder of Williams' term, which ends December 2017. To continue in office beyond December, he may seek a full four-year term in municipal elections this fall.
Town Clerk Joni Powell administered the oath of office to Villadsen with his family beside him at the council's Jan. 17 meeting. Villadsen was a member of the town's Planning Board when the council picked him from a list of candidates to succeed Williams.
In addition to Villadsen, the town board includes Mayor Dick Sears, Mayor Pro Tem Jimmy Cobb, and council members Hank Dickson, Cherie Lee and Tom O'Brien.
