Self-Guided Programs

Bass Lake Park
Discovery Backpacks: Come into the office and check out one of our four discovery backpacks: birds, insects, aquatics or journaling. Each backpack is stuffed with field guides, tools and games to help you find and observe wildlife at the park. Check out a free backpack from the park office anytime we're open! Coming soon, we'll offer tracking and rocks/fossils backpacks also.

NC Tackle Loaner Program: Just learning how to fish? Forgot your pole? no problem! The park offers poles sized for both adult and youth (on request only). Borrow them for free. The concession stand also sells night crawlers and red worms for $3 (cash only).  Visit the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission website to learn more about this program.
Tree ID Hike: Strategically placed tree identification placards are located along the walking trail. Each stand has pictures of the trees located behind them and interesting facts.

Geocaching and Letterboxing: Bass Lake Park is home to several geocaches and letterboxes. Most are located along the trail. Click here for more information, or ask park staff.
