The Holly Springs Utley Creek Water Reclamation Facility is designed to treat up to 6.0 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater. The Town is permitted to release 2.40 MGD, and the average amount released is 1.8 MGD.
The facility is manned 24 hours per day and uses the activated sludge treatment process that also removes biological nutrients, including phosphorus and nitrogen, protecting downstream waterways. The treated effluent discharges into Utley Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin.
